Dental Exams
Ensuring the oral health of your child is one of our primary concerns. Dental exams and cleanings are a crucial component of this, allowing us to monitor your child's oral health, identify potential issues early on, and provide the necessary care.
The Process of a Dental Exam
In these comprehensive dental exams, our Pediatrics team cleans your child's teeth, looks for any signs of upcoming issues, and takes dental X-rays. Preventive methods such as fluoride treatments or dental sealants might be used to safeguard your child's teeth from dental cavities. For the little ones, instructions on brushing and flossing techniques are also part of the session.
As your child grows, their dental requirements change. For older children and teenagers, the dental exam includes all of the aforementioned services, with additional discussions about the potential oral health risks of tobacco usage and other relevant challenges. We also monitor your child's tooth alignment through a pre-orthodontic screening to determine the need for orthodontic intervention.
Frequency of Dental Exams for Children
We advise a dental check-up for your child at least every six months, though more frequent appointments may be suggested based on your child's specific needs.
Your child's dental exams should ideally start within six months of the emergence of their first tooth, or by their first birthday. This initial visit is crucial, as the earlier a child visits the dentist, the better their long-term oral health. Unique checks performed for infants between 6 months and 1 year include:
- Evaluating for baby bottle tooth decay
- Monitor pacifier use and finger sucking habits
- Demonstration of proper infant oral care techniques
- Advice on fluoride intake through diet
